Dinu Lipatti's bones

Literature, Philosophy, Narcissism and Nonsense

A better world is possible

Whenever I tell people that I am a marxist who believes that our current system can one day turn into an egalitarian socialist system, I always get the inevitable replies about how people can not change, how they will never accept socialism, about how this system is forever and about how capitalism somehow is the end point of history.

My great-grandfather has lived through five different incarnations of Germany.

  • An imperial power ruled by the Kaiser
  • A very shortlived federal republic
  • A totalitarian fascist dictatorship
  • A socialist state effectively ruled by one party
  • A social-democratic republic

All of these radical changes occured within one lifetime. Even when I was born, there were still two Germanys. How does anyone dare to tell me that the world somehow lost the ability to change?
